Law school opens free divorce court services to qualifying citizens
The Texas Tech School of Law has partnered with Associate Judge Judy Parker to offer free legal services one night a month to qualifying individuals seeking a divorce. The first clinic was held Jan. 18 with four cases, and the Feb. 15 clinic is already booked with 10 cases, said Nancy Mojica, the equal-justice volunteer program coordinator at Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. "Right now we're trying to limit ourselves to 10 a month," she said. "We're wanting to take more, but we want to see how it works out." Individuals wishing to get legal aid at the clinics must first contact Mojica to be screened through Legal Aid of Northwest Texas. "We are starting with no children and little-to-no property," Parker said. "We would like to expand it, but you have to start somewhere." Mojica said those who are interested should contact her at Legal Aid of Northwest Texas immediately to start the screening process.
